Bello Amanecer 29

We had a great time talking to Eric on SKYPE on Christmas day. He looked great and was happy. He told us some startling details that made me want to follow up with a few questions. Later that day he also sent some pictures. He said that most families do not celebrate Christmas with gift giving and that his companion was one of the few missionaries in the whole mission that did not receive a Christmas letter from his Guatemalan family, that were distributed at a multi-zone Christmas party held on Christmas Eve. That was sad news. He said that he does not email a lot because his companions have not been interested in emailing, so they are just waiting for him. Also the Internet café that he emails from has computers that are old and that have worn keys with no letters on them. He said he has eaten almost everything imaginable from goat head to pig and chicken feet. Surprisingly he has not gotten sick. Right now he is living in the only missionary house that has hot water and is considered one of the better missionary homes. But, that the area is dangerous. Most missionary housing have no refrigerators or no way to cook food. So the missionaries eat the prepared food by a hired lunch person and then they are on the own. Mostly they eat beans and rice. Elder Hironaka was upbeat and happy! We all loved talking to him.

This week after I talked to you we worked a lot but nothing big happened. I want to say I loved talking to everyone, it really made my day; it was the best! I hope I haven’t changed too much. This report is really short, you can expect a better one this next week.

Here are questions I asked Eric:
You mentioned that the police try to take you in and that you give them $20 and they let you go.
1) How often does that happen? Never really
2) Does the mission President know this? Yep
3) What does he say about it? It’s normal
4) Do they target you as an American or as a missionary? No
5) Do they want to take your companion in or just you? Me
6) Has this only happened in the city or did it happen in the jungle too? Both
I thought you said previously that you never even saw the police.
Now let's talk about the people who hold you up.
7) Do they hold you up and threaten you with a weapon or just verbally? No weapon
8) How often does this happen? Almost never
9) What if you just gave them nothing and said, No? I don’t want to know
10) How many missionaries are in your mission? IDK
11) How many are girls? IDK
12) What is the mission goal as a whole for monthly baptisms? 1600
13) How do you travel to zone conference? By bus or taxi? Taxi
14) What are your shoes like that you brought? Are they holding up? Great
15) Are you writing in a journal and recording all your experiences? Yep
I felt bad hearing that you companion gets no mail from his family. That is sad!  He is good
16) Should I write him? Can he write in English? No
17) Tell me what you did Christmas day please. Talked to you guys and worked. Haha

Bello Amanecer Week 27

It’s crazy how fast time is starting to fly. I have to work hard and fast in the day now, because the hours just are going flying by. It's crazy to say that I have been in the mission for 6 months. The sisters that came here with me only lack one year!!!! Crazy! Right? Anyway, I’m going to report on this week.
Ok so, like I said week we worked really hard this week. We had 9 investigators come to church. TWO families! Super crazy that like never happens in the mission. They were super interested in the gospel and they are all preparing for baptism. It was cool but I had to give a talk in church because the Bishop here really likes me and thinks that I’m more than happy to do anything... Well I am, haha. It was a great day in church and afterwards, all the investigators said they liked it and want to come back.
The second thing that happened this week was that we had a baptism. Her name is Snydalin. We have connected really fast and her dad always wants to talk to me about WWE haha. Anyway her baptism was so great and after she had the biggest smile ever. It was really great.
Also I got a hair cut and I like it but it is really short. I look like a Mexican though       haha!
This new area is great but I don’t like the city that much. It’s cool but I don’t know. It feels really different. Something cool about this area is that we have a water heater so I can take a hot shower!   Cool, right? I want to say I love you!  Please be safe and I can’t wait to talk love you. Please be safe!!!
1. Did you figure out when you get to call and how long you get to talk? A) No, This week I will know!
2.  Last week you wrote, "This week was Leonardo’s baptism. Leonardo is a 12-year-old kid who is really cool. I have really connected fast with him and it was super cool to get him baptized. I have to say though baptisms in my new area a not frequent and it’s hard. It’s fun but stressful because I have to fight for every baptism. With him I had to take him out to a different church [building] for his interview and I had to carry him to the church for the baptism. I’ve got to say taking him out to the other church was funny I walked in and everyone looked at me haha. But I told him we needed to leave and he said ok so it’s not as bad as it sounds. It just looked bad haha. [Did you mean a different religion's church building? and why did you have to carry him?] Can you please clarify? A) Yes, we had to take him out of a different church for his interview for baptism and the reason I said I had to carry him is because he didn’t want to walk fast and everyone in the church was waiting for us. So, I picked him up and we ran, hahaha.
3. Did you like the CTR rings? Yes
4. How is the heat? Is it summer there? So hot and yes it’s summer

Bello Amanecer Week 26

It’s your friendly neighborhood Elder Hironaka. This week was a great week for me. I had a baptism that I worked super hard for. I’m also going to say mom how happy I am to talk. I really miss ya.
This week was Leonardo’s baptism. [I am not sure what he means?]
The other person I want to talk about is Snydalin. She is 14 and she has wanted to be baptized for years but her dad said no. Anyway my plan for the past two weeks has been to only become friends with the dad. He is funny, but he is cool anyway. He loves WWE and knows a lot of fighters. When I told him I knew who Superfly Snuka was he just about died, haha. Also thanks to video games I know the names of a lot of WWE fighters as well. Anyway he calls me his brother, which I think is weird but whatever. He gave me permission to baptize his daughter this week!!!! Cool right?
Also this week the ZL wanted to work with us. My zone leader right now was one of my trainers and he told me that he was shocked on how much I changed since my training. He said he was super happy and impressed which made my day.
My companion is good but he isn’t big into talking and is really shy. He’s nice though and is going to work hard.
MOM I’m sorry this email was short but I have to go. I love you and next week you can expect a way longer email. I love you MOM please be safe!!!
1) Have your figured out the Skype or phone call thing for Christmas yet? Please tell me the details. A) No
2) Was the summer sausage any good? Remember it has to be refrigerated once opened? A) I’m going to find out tonight
3) Please spell the correct spelling of the town you are now in. I have looked the map of Managua and cannot find the town you mentioned?  You said it was called Bello Manacell? A) Bello Amanecer
4) You mentioned last week that you now are serving in one of the most dangerous areas in the mission. But you also said that about your last area, San Miguel. Which is worse? Please explain. A) This one is the worst by far
5) Have you missed P-days because of not making your quota?  A) No I always make the quota
6) Is that why you are rushed and have little time to email on P-days? A) No I only have one hour to write
7) What is your ward like? A) Awesome
8) What your favorite thing about your mission?  A) Feeling the hand of God
9) Do you give a lot of talks in church or teach classes? A) Yes
10) Have you been able to use your piano skills? A) No
11) Do you like being the senior companion? Or Are you co-companions? A) I’m senior I am training basically

This is what I sent Eric for Christmas, which means he has opened his Christmas box early!
